Without a doubt, the bodyboard is one of the most important things in my life. It helps me a lot in every way.
WHO ARE YOU?
My name is Hugo Macatrão, I am 33 years old and from Nazaré, Portugal.
When and why did you start bodyboarding?
I started bodyboarding at the age of 12. A friend lent me a surfboard and I tried to catch some waves. I became addicted and I always wanted to do more. From that day on, I never stopped.
What is your favorite manoeuvre and what kind of wave do you prefer?
My favorite manoeuvre is the invert. It is also the manoeuvre in which I am the best and it gives me the most adrenaline. Then I'm a big fan of the right.
How do you see the bodyboard in a few years?
I hope that new riders will discover new slabs and send giant inverts. Bodyboarding is a very young sport with a lot of space to develop and a lot to learn from surfing. (cf the bodyboard was invented by Tim morey in 1971) unfortunately I have the impression that the bodyboard struggles more in other countries, especially in terms of notoriety compared to surfing.
What are your personal bodyboarding goals?
Travelling and surfing in places and destinations with little traffic as well as being present in the best sessions in Portugal. I also want to continue to teach and develop my bodyboard school, the "Pride Training Club of Carcavelos".
Tell us a little more about the "Pride Training Club Carcavelos"
Why did you choose to work with Wildsuits?
Actually, Wildsuits chose me! And I couldn't be happier to have trusted them. Several brands wanted to sponsor me but I immediately felt the potential of this young brand. For me, the water is always cold (laughs) and Wildsuits does an excellent job of keeping me warm. I have had many wetsuitsand, to date, Wildsuits has the hottest and most elastic one wetsuitI have ever worn. Again, congratulations to you on that!
Thank you Hugo, it's’is always a pleasure. Otherwise, is bodyboarding important in your life? Why? Why?
Without a doubt, the bodyboard is one of the most important things in my life. It helps me a lot in every way. If I don't surf, I don't think I'm the same person, it offers stability in my life and it allows me to decompress.
What is the best surfing trip in Portugal?
Hmm... I had a lot of extraordinary surftrips in Portugal. We have incredible waves all along the coast, each swell brings us nuggets. All you have to do is know where to go. But one of the best is a surftrip I did last year in Sagres. This trip was perfect! Thanks again to the inhabitants, in particular to Gonçalo Pinheiro (also sponsored by Wildsuits) who hosted me and transmitted his good vibrations throughout the trip.
